This week at Total Pest Management, we were faced with the challenge of dealing with a bed bug infestation in a unit where the customer was blind. The two main issues were that she did not know that she had bed bugs so the problem went unchecked for quite some time and the second issue was that she could not do the preparations that we required to perform a proper and effective treatment. The solution: We arranged for her to stay at a relative’s house, taking only clean / laundered clothing with her, while we prepped her unit, which involved bagging and doing all her laundry. Her furniture was vacuumed and then placed in our Heat Treatment Unit and treated with heat to kill anything that may be on or in the furniture. The entire unit was vacuumed and treated with steam to effectively kill anything that was in the unit. A light residual pesticide application was performed. It was a lot of effort but another successful treatment by Total Pest management. The next step is to place a VERIFY unit in the unit to which will allow us to confirm our success. The Verify Unit works by mimicking a humans CO2 and using a pheromone to attract bed bugs allowing us to confirm if there is any further activity.
